About
Mezzo Soprano Lucilla is an operatic singer and vocal coach. Originally from Scotland, she now lives in London and performs all over the UK and Europe
Lucilla began singing at a young age, and went on to study music at the University of Glasgow where she qualified with a Bachelor of Music (Hons), First Class. She then proceeded to specialise in vocal studies and performance at the Royal Northern College of Music, obtaining a Master of Music degree. Currently Lucilla studies with teacher Neil Baker.
On the operatic stage, principal roles include Nerone (L’incoronazione di Poppea, Monteverdi), Orpheus (Orpheus ed Eurydice, Gluck), Mercedes (Carmen, Bizet), and Amastre (Serse, Handel). In operetta, she has sung the title role of Iolanthe with Opera East Lothian. Lucilla has also performed in several contemporary operatic premiers and workshops. One example of which was the Helios Collective’s ‘Formations’ series, where new compositions were workshopped with such well-respected musicians as Kasper Holten and Stephen Barlow, and then performed in London.
Lucilla has sung with several leading UK and European opera companies
Lucilla is currently engaged at the Bayreuth Festival, where she is singing in productions of Wagner’s Lohengrin, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Der Fliegende Holländer, and Parsifal. In the UK she has frequently performed with Grange Park Opera and Longborough Festival Opera. Productions include La Traviata, Don Quichotte, La Boheme, Samson et Dalila, Tosca, Jenufa and Tannhäuser. At the Wexford Festival, Lucilla sang the role of Woman and Coro in Vaughan Williams’ Riders to the Sea as part of the Shortworks series in 2016, and performed in the chorus of main stage operas in 2016 and 2017 seasons.
Lucilla is frequently invited to sing in oratorio and gala concerts throughout the UK. Oratorio repertoire includes Requiem (Mozart), Messiah (Handel), Membra Jesu Nostri (Buxtehude), Mass in C (Beethoven), Dream of Gerontius (Elgar) and the Scottish premier of Lotti Missa a Tre Cori at the Edinburgh Festival, amongst many others. In spring 2016 she performed in the Merry Opera Company’s celebrated staged Messiah (directed by John Ramster), which toured London and Kent. She is a member of the Philharmonia Chorus Professional Singer scheme and has participated in masterclasses with Matteo Dalle Frate (Melofonetica), Dame Felicity Palmer, Ann Murray DBE, and Malcolm Martineau.
